Directing Workshop with Jack and Indhu

FRIDAY 2 DECEMBER, 10.30am - 4.30pm at New Perspectives

INDHU RUBASINGHAM (Tricycle Theatre) & JACK MCNAMARA (New Perspectives) - FREE WORKSHOP FOR DIRECTORS & THEATRE MAKERS

The Regional Theatre Young Director Scheme (RTYDS) and New Perspectives have teamed up to offer emerging and mid-career theatre makers and directors an intensive practical day to develop, share and sharpen their directorial skills. Directors will have the unique opportunity to learn from one of London's leading Artistic Directors, Indhu Rubasingham of the Tricycle Theatre, to explore both the role of the director and of the artistic director. The day will proceed to hands-on practical work with New Perspectives' Jack McNamara, in which each participant will work with actors to deepen their craft as directors.

The day is ideal both for directors and for theatre makers whose work could benefit by developing a more rigorous approach to directing. Free of charge with a sandwich lunch provided.

10.30am-1.00pm - Directing tips and advice with Indhu Rubasingham
Discussion about ways of working, followed by a Q&A about running an organisation, programming, talent development and ways in to the industry.

1.00pm-1.30pm - Buffet lunch

1.30pm-4.30pm - Practical directing session led by Jack McNamara of New Perspectives
The session will look at ways of analysing scenes, exercising our visual imaginations and directing professional actors through text and improvisation.

ABOUT OUR MASTERCLASS SERIES
James Graham Masterclass
Each year we curate a series of inspiring masterclass sessions with major figures from the theatre and arts industry as part of our wider Emerging Perspectives programme. These targeted sessions provide opportunities for East Midlands theatre-makers to work in a detailed, practical way accessing a range of ground-breaking artists and companies. We create an informal, inclusive setting where participants at all career stages can benefit from new skills, insights and make new contacts. Masterclass leaders to date have included Forced EntertainmentTim CrouchDavid Rudkin , Alan LyddiardJames Graham,  Inua Ellams, Lyndsey Turner, Slung Low's Alan Lane and and most recently with Earthfall Dance. The donations we receive from participants support the cost of these subsidised opportunities we offer to emerging artists.

Welcome

New Perspectives is an East Midlands based national touring theatre company, with a specialty in creating dynamic performances for rural audiences. We make ambitious and original theatre, focusing on new writing, adaptations and revivals, which we present in community settings and venues nationally and internationally. We provide career defining training and mentoring opportunities for emerging regional talent and manage the rural touring scheme Northants Touring Arts .

EXCITE, CHALLENGE & ENGAGE
