NEW EAST MIDLANDS' AUDIO THEATRE WRITING PROJECT

 Haunts

HAUNTS is a new training project offering up to five early career writers from the East Midlands the opportunity to write a ten minute dramatic work, set in a location of their choosing. Your finished piece will be in either monologue or dialogue form (for up to 6 voices) and will be professionally recorded to be experienced by audiences via headphones as a ten minute audio walk of the location, but can equally be enjoyed listening online- either on the move or from the comfort of an armchair!

Each writer will work with New Perspectives over a four month period to identify and develop their piece. The purpose of the project is to enable emerging writers to deepen their sense of place and character, writing for an audio format. The final pieces will be showcased and downloadable from the New Perspectives website.

HAUNT =  a place frequently visited

HAUNTS is inspired by the visionary playwright David Rudkin's Placeprints: an epic cycle of ten audio plays set in locations across the UK. As part of the programme, writers will have the unique opportunity to receive a one-to-one mentoring session with David Rudkin to develop their work. The project will be led by dramaturg William Drew who will support the writers to develop these pieces between March-July 2017, with sessions running on alternate Saturdays.

Benefits of taking part include:
• workshops and feedback on your work
• a tailored interactive storytelling masterclass with a leading industry professional
• a one-to-one mentoring session with writer David Rudkin
• a professionally produced audio recording of your piece experienced as an audio walk and showcased on our website

What we are looking for:
• to attract interest from a wide-ranging mix of emerging writers from across the region to take part
• to build an audio collection of haunts across the East Midlands, places you like to visit or feel passionate to share stories about
• to award a place to five emerging writers across the six East Midlands counties

Writers must be 18+ and living, working or studying in the East Midlands. To apply please complete the downloadable application form below and return it to theresa@newperspectives.co.uk with "Emerging Playwrights" in the subject line, or alternatively post it to HAUNTS Emerging Playwrights Project, New Perspectives, Park Lane Business Centre, Park Lane, Nottingham, NG6 0DW by 5pm on Wednesday 22nd  February 2017.
