Haunts

HAUNT =  a place frequently visited

This training project gives early career East Midlands' based writers the opportunity to write a ten minute dramatic work, set in a location of their choosing. Each will create a finished piece for live performance. The purpose of the project is to enable emerging writers to deepen their sense of place and character, writing for an audio format. The final pieces will be showcased and downloadable from the New Perspectives website.

Benefits of taking part include:
• workshops and feedback on your work
• a tailored interactive storytelling sessions
• a one-to-one mentoring
• a professionally produced audio recording of your piece experienced as an audio walk and showcased on our website

Ours aims for the project:
• to attract interest from a wide-ranging mix of emerging writers from across the region to take part
• to build an audio collection of haunts across the East Midlands, places you like to visit or feel passionate to share stories about
• to share stories from places across the East Midlands

All participating writers are aged 16+ and live, work or study in the East Midlands. The HAUNTS project is inspired by the visionary playwright David Rudkin's Placeprints: an epic cycle of ten audio plays set in locations across the UK. For details of the HAUNTS live events click here

HAUNTS 2017
Our first training project offered up to five early career writers from the East Midlands the opportunity to write a ten minute dramatic work, set in a location of their choosing. Each created a finished piece in either monologue or dialogue form (for up to 6 voices), professionally recorded to be experienced by audiences via headphones as a ten minute audio walk of a location, but can equally be enjoyed listening online - either on the move or from the comfort of an armchair!

Each writer worked with New Perspectives over a four month period to identify and develop their piece. The purpose of the project was to enable emerging writers to deepen their sense of place and character, writing for an audio format.

Our 5 writers for 2017: JFW Nutt, Leanne Moden, & Lucy Colgan (Nottingham), Jo Woolaston (Leicester) and Susie Hennessy (Lincoln). With Sound Design by Adam McCready.

Welcome

New Perspectives is the East Midlands’ touring theatre company. Founded in 1973, we champion new writing, under-represented voices and powerful stories, touring world-class theatre into the heart of communities – reaching rural audiences where they live.

We believe that all people, whatever their age, circumstance or identity, have the right to access practice and inspire theatre and that all places can be sites of exciting cultural exchange.
