Artistic Director Welcome

01 November 2021

A note from Angharad Jones, Artistic Director

I am excited to take this opportunity to introduce myself to you as the new Artistic Director of New Perspectives.  I am proud to join the organisation and its dedicated team and look forward to getting to know our audiences, collaborators, artists & supporters even better over the coming weeks, months and years.

New Perspectives has always held a special place in my heart. Having spent the last two decades following the work of the company, I have long admired its origins and ethos, the people who shaped it and latterly as part of the team working alongside Jack McNamara as associate director on The Fishermen. New Perspectives is a fiercely independent, forward-thinking organisation that embraces risk and works with integrity for social change and I feel immensely privileged to carry this mantle going forward.

Our company name New Perspectives will act as a prism to reflect a spectrum of ambitious work, placing world premieres of adaptations and new plays by the leading playwrights in the UK today at the centre of the programme. We will champion new and under-represented voices, unlock talent and creativity, making work that is brave in imagination, bold in execution and global in outlook.

As a team, we will work with openness and courage to facilitate access to arts and culture to enrich lives and feed souls without exclusion, working with people, on their own terms, in their own places and spaces.

I acknowledge I take this position at a complex and challenging time for the industry; at a time that's ripe for reimagining and reconfiguring and also at a time where reconnection and healing is paramount. I will prioritise the acute need to support freelancers at this time providing employment and opportunities to ensure we prevent a mass exodus of talent among our creative community.

During these first few weeks in post, I have been very much in listening mode. My door is open and I am happy to have a chat be it online or in person.

I am tremendously excited to take New Perspectives into its next 50 years and I invite you to come along for the ride!

New Perspectives is an East Midlands' based touring theatre company, specialising in bringing new work to rural and community audiences. Through an annual programme of original adaptations, rare revivals and new writing, we aim to bring live theatre that is diverse, affordable and accessible into the heart of wide-ranging communities, as well as to regional, national and international venues.
Our productions are testament to the fact that rural theatre is as relevant, challenging and vital as theatre made for any other environment. Our participatory projects, career defining training and mentoring opportunities for emerging regional talent and rural touring scheme Northants Touring Arts makes tangible difference to people where they live.
